South Buffalo Alive will celebrate completion of the renovation of the Firemen’s Monument at the entrance to Olmsted’s Cazenovia Park, at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 14 — Flag Day!
As part of the ceremony, officials will raise a flag on the site’s new flagpole, a gift of South Buffalo Alive and community supporters. The flag that will fly over the monument was donated by Don Colpoys, whose brother Matthew Colpoys was killed along with four fellow Buffalo firefighters in a propane explosion that occurred on Dec. 27, 1983, in the city. The flag was on the casket of their father, the late Ed Colpoys, who was a World War II veteran.
