Western New York: First Annual Day of Caring For Pets

For the first time, Western New York is coming together in a massive way during the holidays to assist those who are already doing above and beyond to help our animals. Below are the shelters that have submitted their info to WNY Lost & Found Pets. If you wish to support, just contact the shelter directly and if you are a shelter in need, contact WNY Lost & Found Pets.

The Facebook Event Page is HERE

All of the shelters in need are below in the order they responded for our help. If you are unable to donate items or time, monetary donations are always accepted yet not required. Please contact the rescue you want to work with and spread some hope during this season!

Dogs love to  chase bunnies, but who knew they also loved to hunt for Easter eggs? The annual Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs, presented by National Service Dogs (NSD), will take place in nearby London, Ontario, on March 29. A fundraising event for NSD, the event has been hosted in various cities across Ontario over the last 15 years.

In fact, the hunt is hosted every Good Friday in nine Canadian cities. The 2012 Easter Egg Hunt raised over $100,000 for this worthy organization, committed to enriching the quality of life and enhancing the independence of children and individuals living with autism and special needs.

Food Pantry for Pets

BUFFALO, NY - During those times when just putting enough food on the table becomes a challenge, feeding the family pet might seem like just too much.

One local woman with a life-long love of animals saw that need, and met that challenge. Kathy Hogan has been running a pet food pantry in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood for a few years now.

Relying on the generosity of pet shops, pet food suppliers, and pet lovers, Kathy is now looking for help from others so she can continue to help those in need.

Watch the story above, and if you would like to help you can reach Kathy at the Buffalo Animal Companion Network at www.bflocan.org or call 836-0925.

A Statement Released by the Erie County SPCA

Hurricane Sandy can force East Coast animal shelters to close, leaving many animals with nowhere to go. The SPCA Serving Erie County may be called upon to help. In fact, Hurricane Sandy may cause animal rescue and housing emergencies right here at home. For these reasons, we're clearing the kennels to make room for dogs who fall victim to this howling storm.  Take advantage of this ghoulishly-great Halloween special!

Howling Halloween Special!
October 29 - October 31
(Dogs 10 and older: as always, adoption fee waived)

Adopt A Pet: Daphne

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Suzanne Laba from the Buffalo Animal Shelter once again stopped by the Daybreak Saturday studios with Daphne, a wonderful dog currently living in a foster home.

Daphne is a very friendly dog and was jumping on our newsroom desks before the show! She has been living with her foster mother since this past April.

She is about 18 months old and is housebroken and friendly to everyone she meets.

If you're interested in adopting Daphne, you can email her foster mother here.
