AMHERST, N.Y. – Daemen College has received a Food Recovery Challenge Regional Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2, making it the only college in New York State to receive this distinction.

“We are proud to have Daemen recognized as a regional leader in sustainability practices and for our ongoing commitment to reduce the college’s environmental footprint,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “As an educational institution, we strive to foster an environmentally conscious campus culture that actively engages our students, faculty, and staff.”

No Frills Buffalo Publishing Releases ‘City of Blight’

“City of Blight,” by John Wingspread Howell, is the latest book release from No Frills Buffalo publishing company. A native of Buffalo who moved away for 31 years before returning home, Howell’s previous novels include “The Goddess Patrol,” “Naked in Church” and “St. Jude’s Gospel.

“ ‘City of Blight’ is a sort of Sopranos meets House of Cards on a local city level, with a great love story thrown in,” said the author. “There is political intrigue, conspiracy, psychological complexity and a story of lifelong — though mostly unrequited — love.”

Daemen’s Sustainability Program Ranked No. 1 Among Small Colleges

Daemen College’s unique Global and Local Sustainability Program has earned the top ranking in the nation among the “Best Value Small Colleges for an Environmental Science Degree,” making it the only Western New York college to be named to the list.

The 2017 ranking has been announced by Best Value Small Colleges, an online guide to the best values in college education in the country.

“We are proud to have this exceptional degree program ranked the best in the nation and to be recognized for offering a high-quality education at an affordable cost to our students,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “This top honor truly reflects the program’s academic excellence in preparing students to foster the social, environmental, and economic well-being of our communities.”

Daemen Ranked in Top 10 Nationally for Biology Degree

AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen College has been ranked among the top 10 in the nation on the “35 Best Value Small Colleges for a Biology Degree” list released by Best Value Schools, an online guide to the best values in college education in the country.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top institutions in the nation for a degree in the field of biology,” said Daemen President Gary A. Olson. “Our academic excellence, educational value, and many learning opportunities truly make a Daemen education an outstanding experience for our students.”

On the 2017 list, Daemen is ranked No. 7 among small schools in the U.S. that offer a bachelor’s degree in biology or a related area. The college was specifically cited for its unique bachelor’s degree in biology/master’s degree in cytotechnology program offered in partnership with Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Daemen Earns Two National Military Friendly Distinctions

Daemen College has been recognized as one of the top military friendly and veteran supportive institutions in the country in two newly released national rankings.

For the eighth consecutive year, Daemen has been selected by Victory Media as a Military Friendly School, which is awarded to top colleges, universities and trade schools in the country for doing the most to embrace student veterans and have dedicated resources to ensure their success in the classroom and beyond graduation.

Daemen has also been named a top school in the 2017 Military Advanced Education and Transition Guide to Colleges and Universities that measures best practices in military and veteran education.

New Book Release From No Frills Buffalo Focuses On St. Bonaventure Basketball

“SNUBBED: A Basketball Season of Triumph, Crisis and Despair at St. Bonaventure University,” written by veteran journalist Brian Toolan, is the latest release from the No Frills Buffalo publishing company.

Toolan is a veteran journalist who worked for 43 years as a reporter and a ranking editor in the newspaper industry. Positions he has held include sports editor and managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News, business editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer, editor and senior vice president of the Hartford Courant and national editor of the Associated Press. He was editor of the Courant when it won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of a murderous rampage at the headquarters of the Connecticut Lottery. Toolan also directed coverage of the Virginia Tech shootings and the Minneapolis bridge collapse while at the Associated Press. He currently resides in New Hope, Pa.
