Man Pulled from the Niagara River | News

BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo police and fire crews worked together Thursday morning to rescue a man who was stuck in the Niagara River.

The event all unfolded around 2 a.m. at the foot of West Ferry Street, a man was in the water and clinging to a wall.

Sources tell 2 On Your Side's Jim Herr police officers arrived and immediately threw the man a special floatation rescue device; a new piece of equipment that was just recently added to the cars of D-District police cruisers.

A ladder was lowered to the 56-year-old man by firefighters and he was pulled up from the water.

As first responders were checking over the man for injuries, he became despondent and was restrained.

The man did not appear to be injured, but Rural Metro Medical Services tells us they took the man to Erie County Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
