"MY CHRISTMAS MIRACLE" - Taylor Caldwell

"MY CHRISTMAS MIRACLE" - Taylor Caldwell

A True Christmas Story by Buffalo’s Taylor Caldwell, 1920’s Buffalo NY

"My Christmas Miracle" by Taylor Caldwell

For many of us, one Christmas stands out from all the others, the one when the meaning of the day shone clearest. Although I did not guess it, my own "truest" Christmas began on a rainy spring day in the bleakest year of my life. Recently divorced, I was in my 20s, had no job, and was on my way downtown to go the rounds of the employment offices. I had no umbrella, for my old one had fallen apart, and I could not afford another one. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle inlaid with gold and flecks of bright enamel. I had never seen anything so lovely.

I examined the handle and saw a name engraved among the golden scrolls.

Holiday Event to Benefit AIDS Community Services

Ebenezer: Do You Believe A Man Can Change?, a unique one-man show by Lee John to benefit AIDS Community Services, will be held at 7:30 p.m. December 15 and 16 at the Evergreen Conference Center/BUA, 119 W. Chippewa St., Buffalo. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 499-1755.

Lee John explores Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in a unique, fun and intensely emotional way. It is a “behind the scenes” look at Ebenezer’s fateful night. In Lee’s version, Jacob Marley is not repentant, yet has one word that can save us all. The three ghosts are “off-duty union workers” that spout wisecracks and wisdom to the audience.  They discuss silk sheets, TJ Maxx, movies, obesity, husky jeans, union rules and yes, Ebenezer.

March of Dimes Partners with Statewide Health Agencies to Address Late Preterm Birth

In an effort to reduce the number of late preterm births, the March of Dimes New York Chapter announced today it will partner with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the New York State Chapter of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG District II) to help educate health care providers and the public on the importance of the last weeks of pregnancy and the risk of early deliveries.  A healthy, full term-pregnancy lasts 39-40 weeks, yet there has been a rise in births scheduled prior to that time through inductions and C-sections that are not medically necessary - a practice once thought to be safe.  Research shows that scheduling births, even a few weeks too early, may result in babies having feeding, breathing and learning problems.  They are also more likely to die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
