Family Valentine’s Day AND Sea Lion Kiss Encounters!

Buffalo, NY – Have some fun with your loved ones at the Buffalo Zoo with Buffalo Zoo’s Family Valentine’s Day event on Sunday, February 13, 2011!

The event will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Enjoy animal enrichment activities and making cards for your family and friends (or even your favorite animal at the Zoo!). Activities are FREE with Zoo admission.

AT THE CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY IN TOWN OF TONAWANDA.

Buffalo, N.Y. – The public is invited to a special presentation by Buffalo Zoo Curator of Education Tiffany Vanderwerf on climate change and its effect on polar bears. The free lecture is Sunday February 20th at noon at The Church of the Nativity, on Colvin Boulevard at Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda. The presentation is part of the Buffalo Zoo’s “Be Cool for Polar Bears” speaking tour.

Parent Network of WNY, Early Childhood Direction Center (ECDC) and People Inc. are proud to present distinguished national speaker Carol Stock Kranowitz, M.A. at the annual "Parents and Professionals Learning Together" Conference on April 7, 2011 at Lucarelli's Banquet Center, 1830 Abbott Road, Lackawanna, NY 14218  The conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Ms. Kranowitz will present The Out of Sync Child: Understanding Sensory Processing Disorder.

There will be 8 consecutive workshops: 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. February 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 2011 at The Belle Center-104 Maryland St. Buffalo, NY 14201. Topics will include but are not limited to: What is your Baby Trying to Say; The Secret Lives of Babies: Eat & Sleep; A Doctor Talk; Read, Baby, Read and more!  A FREE Fisher Price Toy will be given upon successful completion of 4 consecutive workshops. Fifth-Annual CASH In Saturday to be Held This Weekend to Kick Off Tax Season!

WHAT:     Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (CASH), an initiative of United Way, will once again kick off the income tax season with a day of free tax preparation and filing, as well as access to a wide range of other services to those earning less than $50,000 per year as part of Cash In Saturday.

WHO:        Individuals and families earning less than $50,000 per year are eligible for free tax preparation from trained preparers, as well as services from many local  banks, educational institutions, health and human service agencies, and government agencies

WHEN:   SATURDAY, January 29, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

WHERE:   Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC) Hope Center at the Tri-Main Building, 2495 Main Street, Buffalo

Buffalo State College Volunteers to Offer Free Tax Preparation Services

Buffalo State College Volunteers to Offer Free Tax Preparation Services

Volunteers at Buffalo State College will offer free tax preparation services this tax season to individuals and families of Western New York with gross incomes of less than $50,000 per year. Buffalo State is one of eight sites partnering with the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County’s Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope (CASH) coalition to offer free tax services in 2011.

Help is available from fully-trained volunteer preparers starting January 31 through April 13 on the Buffalo State campus in Bacon Hall 106A. Walk-in preparation will be offered on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while appointment-only service will be available Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Appointments can be requested by calling (716) 878-5907.

Residents and families are asked to bring photo identification, social security cards, wage and earning statements, and a copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available.
