4th Annual Neighborhood Festival of Lights

BUFFALO, NY - For the fourth year running, block clubs on the West Side are showing their holiday spirit by putting together a 'Festival of Lights'.

Now a yearly tradition, households from Richmond to the Peace Bridge participate in a friendly competition between Thanksgiving and January 6th with the intent to showcase the improvements that the city has made over the past year.

Neighborhood and celebrity judges will tour the participating areas in December to assign points in categories that include: Most Creative, Most Thematic, Most Unique and Most Environmentally Friendly Display.

More than twenty local businesses have donated gift certificates for the winners.  Those local businesses include: Sweetness7, Morning Glory, Elmwood Village Fabrics, Grassroots Gardens, Chef's, Delish, Allentown Hardware, Amory Tavern, Avalon Scarves, Chuck Cardone Barbershop, Faces of Buffalo- Art Mosaics, Louie's Charcoal Hot Dogs, ING Photography, Boomerangs, Marco's Ristorante, Buffalo State College, Wegman's, Tops, and Entertainment Book.

The Cottage District Neighborhood Association began the festival as a way to beautify their small section of the neighborhood with lights in the winter. Over the past several years the festival has grown exponentially, and is getting closer and closer to becoming the 'Garden Walk of the winter season.'
