Dog Ears Bookstore recently finished three weeks of reading and writing summer camps sponsored by the Erie County Youth Bureau. The camps were run by New York State-certified teachers and featured reading and writing activities, games and much more, all of which aligned with Common Core and New York State Standards in education. 

Each morning the children gathered at the bookstore to discuss the day’s activity which was followed by a related writing piece. At the end of the week, each participant had five publishable pieces of work in their portfolio. This is the first year Erie County has sponsored the camps that keep children engaged in learning throughout the summer months, ensuring a smooth transition to the next school year. 

Free pre-training literacy classes for the unemployed and underemployed are now being offered at the nonprofit Dog Ears Bookstore, located at 688 Abbott Road, Buffalo. One-on-one sessions are available to individuals 18 and older who have a high school diploma or GED.

A Daemen College education has been ranked among the top 200 of private colleges in the country for best return on investment (ROI), according to PayScale’s 2015 ROI Report. The college is listed at No. 186 in the category for private colleges.

Daemen has also been recognized as one of Upstate New York’s most sound financial investments, ranking 18th on ROI. Daemen is ranked in the top 20 of 37 Upstate New York colleges, joining other prestigious private institutions in the state such as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (No. 1), Colgate University (No. 7), and Skidmore College (No. 16).
