Join the Holiday Churches Bus Tour

All new churches for 2010!  Visit the lush interiors of Delaware Avenue Baptist Church, St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, Blessed Trinity, and the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation. This six hour, guided tour includes transportation, entry into each church, admission to the Buffalo Religious Arts Center, lunch at Chef's, and a special organ recital at Xavier Hall.  

Meet the Authors at the History Museum: Local Author Book-signing and Sale

The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society presents its annual Local Author/Buffalo Book-Signing on Saturday, Nov. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. at the History Museum, located at 25 Nottingham Court at Elmwood Avenue.

The event is FREE and open to the public. It's designed for shoppers looking for personalized gifts in a relaxed atmosphere, features over 35 local authors selling and signing their books. The wide range of publications—including cookbooks, neighborhood, regional and military history, novels and coffee-table books—makes this a perfect opportunity to shop for a variety of tastes. All that and an autograph, too!

Giving Thanks For Another Year To Serve: Buffalo AmeriCorps Takes A New Oath Of Service

Buffalo, New York – November 23, 2010 – Buffalo AmeriCorps members represented Buffalo well as they attended the annual AmeriCorps kickoff held in Albany, NY by The New York State Commission on National and Community Service.

The event held on November 19th, 2010 united thousands of AmeriCorps members from New York State to take the AmeriCorps pledge of service, enjoy keynote speakers and partake in educational trainings such as: CPR/Disaster Preparedness and conflict resolution. A mass service project also took place were 3000 Christmas cards were signed and filled with inspirational messages by AmeriCorps members to send to American troops overseas.

Pulitzer Prize-Winning Historian on Red Jacket, Six Nations, War of 1812

Taylor to give lecture entitled: "Red Jacket and the Role of the Six Nations in the War of 1812"

Dr. Alan S. Taylor, a renowned and award-winning author and historian, will be at the History Museum Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 1:30 p.m., to speak on a subject near and dear to our city and region.

His lecture, "Red Jacket and the Role of the Six Nations in the War of 1812," is particularly apropos for the region and the museum now. Local interest is mounting with even more than the usual fervor as we ramp up for the 2012 bicentennial of the War of 1812. In addition, the museum currently has an exciting and in-depth exhibit exploring Red Jacket in the context of John Mix Stanley's monumental painting "The Trial of Red Jacket."

BPO Student Ticket Pricing in Honor of 75th Anniversary

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- In honor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's 75th Anniversary, students may purchase individual tickets for any M&T Bank Classic Series Concert* for only $7.50. Or, for only $19.35 they can purchase a Student Classics Pass and see all M&T Bank Classic Series Concerts* through June 2011.

The Student Classics Pass is good for walk-up seats day of concert only. All student tickets are held at Will Call, are non-transferable and require proof of a Valid Student ID when redeemed at the Box Office.

*Student ticket prices are not available for Classical Christmas and Lang Lang's Buffalo Debut.

Trocaire College to Host Artisan Show

A variety of talented local artisans will participate in a one day only show and sale to benefit Trocaire College – a portion of the proceeds from the show will support the Trocaire Alumni Scholarship Fund.  The “Artisan Show” will be held at Trocaire’s Russell J. Salvatore School located at 6681 Transit Road in Lancaster (behind Russell’s Steaks, Chops & More) on Saturday, November 20 from 11 am – 4 pm.
